SEASONAL MAINTENANCE
Spring Maintenance:
De-winterize the plumbing system by flushing antifreeze from all lines, sanitize the freshwater holding tank using a mild bleach solution, inspect wheel bearings, and test the furnace and air conditioner before peak travel begins.
Summer Maintenance:
Clean AC evaporator coils to prevent overheating during heat waves, monitor tire pressure weekly (as ambient heat increases tire PSI), and inspect exterior surfaces for sun-induced UV degradation and fading.
Fall Maintenance:
Clear tree debris and sap from the roof, inspect the furnace burner assembly, replace worn weather stripping around entry doors, and test water heater performance before colder weather arrives.
Winter Maintenance:
Properly winterize the entire plumbing system by blowing out lines or adding RV antifreeze, add fuel stabilizer if the engine will sit idle, disconnect batteries and store them on a trickle charger, and ensure tires are inflated to recommended storage pressures.
Axle Maintenance
Wheel Bearing Service and Repacking
-
Disassembly and Cleaning: Removing the hub assembly, extracting the bearings, and thoroughly washing away old contaminated grease using a solvent.
-
Inspection for Wear: Examining the bearing cones and cups (races) for pitting, scoring, heat discoloration, or metal flaking.
-
Repacking: Packing high-temperature, high-pressure wheel bearing grease deep into the bearing rollers.
-
Seal Replacement: Discarding and replacing old grease seals with brand-new ones every single time the hub is removed to prevent grease from leaking onto the brake shoes.
-
Bearing Adjustment: Reinstalling the hub and tightening the spindle nut to the manufacturer's precise torque specifications to avoid end-play or excessive preload.
Brake System Inspection and Servicing
-
Friction Material Check: Measuring the thickness of brake pads or drum brake shoes. If linings are worn past safety limits, they must be replaced.
-
Magnet and Drum Evaluation: Inspecting electric brake magnets for groove wear, scoring, or wiring fraying. Checking the inner surface of the brake drum for scoring or out-of-round warping.
-
Hardware Lubrication: Lubricating the backing plate anchor points and moving slider mechanisms with high-temperature brake lubricant, ensuring the brake shoes move freely without binding.
-
Hydraulic/Electric Testing: Testing brake actuation voltage (for electric systems) or bleeding and flushing lines (for hydraulic surge systems) to eliminate air pockets and moisture.
Suspension Components Check
-
Leaf Springs and Torsion Arms: Inspecting leaf springs for cracks, inter-leaf friction, flattening, or sagging. For rubberized torsion axles, inspecting the outer arm angle and checking for rubber cord deterioration.
-
U-Bolts and Hardware: Checking torque specs on axle U-bolts, spring shackle bolts, and equalizers. Loose U-bolts can cause axle shifting, leading to tire misalignment and accelerated tread wear.
-
Bushings: Replacing worn-out nylon, rubber, or bronze suspension bushings that cause clunking or sloppy handling.
Structural Frame and Alignment Inspection
-
Straightness and Alignment: Verifying that the axle tube is not bent or twisted from striking deep potholes, curbs, or overloading. Ensuring proper front-to-back axle alignment relative to the kingpin or coupler.
-
Weld Verification: Inspecting the welds where the axle spring seats, spindle attachments, and hangers meet the main trailer frame to catch hairline fractures early.
Electrical Repair
-
Trailer Breakaway System Repair: Replacing faulty or sheared breakaway switches, repairing frayed wiring, and servicing emergency brake batteries to ensure trailer brakes lock automatically if the rig disconnects from the tow vehicle.
-
Trailer 7-Way and 4-Way Plug Replacement: Cutting off corroded, burnt, or physically damaged trailer plugs and wiring harnesses, and splicing in new weatherproof molded connectors to restore reliable lighting and braking signals.
-
Converter and Inverter Diagnostics & Replacement: Testing and replacing dead or malfunctioning power converters (which change 120V AC shore power into 12V DC power for lights and pumps) and inverters (which convert 12V DC battery power into 120V AC power for household appliances).
-
House and Chassis Battery Service: Diagnosing, load-testing, and replacing dead or sulfated deep-cycle lead-acid, AGM, or lithium RV batteries, as well as repairing corroded battery cable terminals and master disconnect switches.
-
Solar Panel and Charge Controller Installation & Repair: Troubleshooting faulty solar charge controllers, repairing cracked or micro-damaged rooftop solar panels, and rewiring blown inline fuses within green energy charging arrays.
-
120V Shore Power Inlet and Circuit Breaker Repair: Replacing melted, scorched, or water-damaged 30-amp and 50-amp shore power receptacles (twist-lock inlets), and replacing tripped or faulty thermal circuit breakers inside the main AC distribution panel.
-
GFCI Outlet Testing and Replacement: Troubleshooting and replacing non-functioning Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets in high-moisture areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and exterior compartments.
-
Interior and Exterior LED/Lighting Upgrades: Tracking down hidden short circuits, replacing burnt-out incandescent or LED clearance lights, repairing faulty switch panels, and rewiring custom interior accent or ceiling lights.
-
Appliance Electrical Troubleshooting: Repairing control boards and 12V/120V heating elements on major appliances including refrigerators, water heaters, and ducted rooftop air conditioners.
-
Slide-Out Motor and Electric Jack Repair: Rebuilding or replacing jammed electric slide-out motors, leveling jack actuators, and electric tongue jack assemblies, along with replacing blown high-amperage auto-reset circuit breakers.
Structural Repair
